Let’s Get Cooking is an after school cookery course for our Year 2 children.
It has been running since September 2010 having been set up with Lottery grant funding.
We run a new course each half term. Children are invited to apply for a place each time – at the beginning of the school year the courses are usually oversubscribed, but by the end of the year all children that want a place have always been allocated one.
All equipment and ingredients are supplied by the school.
The children will learn basic cookery skills such as how to follow a recipe, food hygiene, safe chopping, weighing & measuring, peeling and all types of mixing. There is also the opportunity to taste the food prepared and whilst we are aware that not everyone likes all foods we do encourage the children to at least try what they have made.
Some of the recipes that we have made include muffins, burgers, pizzas, fruit crumbles, bread, meatballs, curries, smoothies and cookies, as well as many other delicious things. The children go home with a copy of each recipe used and also details of how to access many more resources and recipes, plus any leftovers!
